3 Phase Half Wave Converter: 3 Phase Half Wave Controlled Rectifier

The three-phase half-wave rectifier consists of a three-phase transformer. The three-phase converter provides a higher average output voltage. Compared with single-phase converters, the ripple frequency on the output voltage is higher(24V to 12V 80A converter). Therefore, the filtering requirements for smoothing the load current and load voltage are simpler. For these reasons, three-phase converters are widely used in high-power variable speed drives.

Just like in a single-phase circuit, even if there is no smooth layout, there is no single point of rectified voltage that will drop to zero. Compared with the single-phase circuit, the voltage ripple is also very small. The frequency of the AC power supply is three times that of the former. If smoothing is required, it is easy to obtain. If the DC saturation of the transformer core caused by the DC current of each diode is to be avoided, the circuit will need to adopt a zigzag secondary.

A rectifier is a device used to convert alternating current to direct current. The rectifier contains one or more diodes, which act as a one-way controller so that the current can only move in one direction. The process of making the current flow in only one direction is called rectification. There are different types of rectifiers, such as vacuum tube diodes, solid-state diodes, silicon controlled rectifiers, mercury arc valves, and various other silicon rectifiers.

Three-phase half-wave control rectifier work:

3 Phase Half Wave Controlled Rectifier

The three-phase half-wave controlled rectifier is used to convert alternating current to direct current. According to the required output DC voltage, the input AC power will be supplied from the transformer to the thyristor converter at the required voltage(12v to 24v fixed converter for winch). In the positive half cycle of the input power, the thyristor is in a forward-biased state, and the upper and lower ends of the transformer are at a positive potential. By applying a suitable gate trigger pulse to the terminals of the thyristor, the thyristor can be activated at a delayed angle.

Advantages of three-phase half-wave control rectifier:

Compared with single-phase rectifiers, the output current contains very little AC components. Because the ripple factor is small, it does not require high-cost filtering to provide a stable DC output. The rectification effect is good and the transformer utilization rate is high.
