There are two types of 12V chargers, the direct current, and the alternating current. Each one of these has it's own pros and cons. Although there is no definitive "best" type of battery charger, if you need to charge more than one battery at a time, I highly recommend using a direct current charger.
When you use a cable or plug to plug in your charger, you will only be able to charge one battery at a time. With an AC direct current charger, you can charge two batteries at a time! Now, if you have just one set of batteries and your charger only has a standard output of 10 volts, that is still pretty slow!
The fastest and most efficient way to charge a pair of batteries is by using a DC direct current battery charger. You can save yourself a ton of money if you just buy one of these chargers. I have had batteries for which I have used a different type of cable and they still took hours to get to 80% full. To me, this is unacceptable!
Let's take a look at the basics of how a DC charger works. First, it will detect the presence of a voltage on the battery. If the battery is an alkaline battery, then the battery will be connected to the positive terminal of the charger. This would be different than a Ni-Cad battery that uses NiCad technology to detect a current in the battery.
The second step is the charger will then sense the presence of a battery power source (in this case, a DC battery charger). If you want to charge two batteries, the charger will first do a simple "charge balance" which is just the basic balancing of the total battery current. Then, it will send a signal to the controller board that sends the current to the battery.
Once the first stage is complete, the second stage is done by sending a signal to the controller board. It will tell the battery charger to activate the next stage, where the battery is used as the power source. Then, the second stage begins charging the battery.
It doesn't take long for the whole process to finish. And, you do not have to be near the charger to use it!
The downside of DC battery chargers is the price. However, if you have a few hundred dollars to spend, you will be happy with the result.(Modified sine wave power inverter charger)
If you want to charge your battery, but don't want to try to figure out how to do so on your own, then I would recommend purchasing a kit. Kits come with everything you need to do the job. It does take some time to assemble all the parts, but it can save you a lot of time and money.
You will also be able to upgrade your battery charger if your batteries don't hold up anymore. It could cost a few extra dollars, but it could mean you have a newer, more powerful charger.
To summarize, a DC battery charger is great for people who like to charge their batteries. Not only is it fast but it also saves a ton of money and also reduces the hassle of figuring out how to charge your batteries.
A DC battery charger is also easy to install, and there are kits available that will take you through the entire process. Make sure you check out the links below to find out more about them. https://www.scientekpower.com/products/(12V 50A charger: the DC Battery Charger)
