If a separate battery charger is installed in an independent power system, it should be regarded as an inverter. The battery charger can be a separate unit or combined in a combined inverter charger.
The inverter converts the direct current from the battery or solar module into usable alternating current. The inverter is a complex electronic device and must be installed in a relatively clean area.
The battery has a specific charging method and may need to be periodically balanced. The system designer will explain this process. Equalization charging is automatically controlled by the system, or the owner is required to connect the generator and battery charger regularly (about once a month).
When the energy from renewable energy sources is intermittent, the battery needs to be charged in an independent system(Rechargeable Lithium-Polymer Battery). By using multiple renewable energy sources and/or expanding the size of solar panels or wind turbines, if the risk of occasional power outages is acceptable, the need for battery chargers and generators can be eliminated.
The inverter provides 240V AC power from the battery pack. When the generator starts, the inverter charger switches the load to the generator and becomes a battery charger, charging the battery from the generator.
Any battery charging source requires a manual or automatic regulator/controller to properly charge the battery. When the battery power is low, the automatic control will start the generator; for the inverter with generator set synchronization, when the load is greater than the maximum output power of the inverter, the automatic control will start the generator. The charging status of the battery must be monitored through manual control.
Without a proper charge controller, it is dangerous to connect an unregulated charging source (such as solar panels) directly to the battery and may permanently damage the battery.
The charger must be installed near the battery and can be installed on the ground or on a shelf. The input power of the charger must be the PowerPoint of the generator only. In grid-connected systems with backup batteries, the charger is usually powered by the mains.
